About Writescape

Thanks so much for a welcoming, wonderful, amazing weekend. Loved it all.

When Gwynn Scheltema and Ruth Walker launched Writescape in autumn 2008 they wanted their retreats and workshops to offer more than a standard program. They wanted to create an extraordinary experience. So they committed to  supporting writers’ individual needs: all-inclusive retreats in natural settings, professional programming, inspiring workshops for writers at all levels.

In 2010, Gwynn and Ruth brought their popular writing workshops under the Writescape umbrella. Heather O’Connor joined Writescape as Marketing Coordinator and added her expertise to the workshops. Writescape also partners with other like-minded writing professionals to deliver an even wider range of dynamic programs.

Writescape’s growth continues year after year. Individual coaching for writers, editing manuscripts to submission-ready status, developing and delivering corporate communications and writing programs are just a taste of our offerings.

Carve out time for yourself as a writer. Whether an evening workshop or an extended retreat, there is no better place for clear, creative thought than dedicated time to focus on your craft. And there is no better team prepared to help you achieve your writing dream than Writescape. Come, write with us…

Our Team

Our Team

We bring passion and focus to your Writescape experience. From delivering innovative and engaging workshops to creating inspiring retreats, the Writescape Team pays attention to even the smallest detail. Gwynn, Ruth and Heather are award-winning professional writers with a wealth of experience: novels, short stories, coaching, freelancing and more. They share a love of words and a desire to help you move forward on your writing journey.

Gwynn Scheltema wears many hats: professional editor, publisher, poet and tax expert. She produces and co-hosts the writing industry radio show Word on the Hills. The Timothy Findley Creative Writing Award and Toronto Star Short Story Contest are only a taste of her writing kudos.

Ruth E. Walker mentors writers of all ages and abilities. Her very first submission won the Canadian Living magazine’s short story contest, and she’s never looked back. She writes it all: poetry, fiction, plays, nonfiction. Her novel Living Underground is now in second printing.
