Fall Workshops

Fall Workshops

This fall, Writescape’s Ruth E. Walker will be offering two workshops.

Speak Up, Character  Saturday, October 2

A free custom 3-hour workshop for the Canadian Authors’ Association, Niagara Branch, in partnership with the St. Catharines Public Library

Workshop: All dialogue in fiction has a purpose. Learn how to recognize that purpose so you can choose the right words for effective character and plot development.

Avoid boring filler blah, blah, blah and focus on creating conversations that keep readers turning the page.

Presenter: Author and editor, Ruth E. Walker offers practical, hands-on exercises and a warm and welcoming atmosphere for writers at all levels. A partner in Writescape, Ruth has presented workshops at conferences, colleges and in communities such as Moose Factory, Muskoka, Haliburton, Ottawa, Peterborough, the GTA, London, and the Niagara Region.

  • October 2 2021
  • 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • St. Catharines Public Library, 54 Church Street, St. Catharines

NOTE: The St. Catharines Library plans to hold this workshop in person, dependent on current provincial and local public health restrictions. If necessary, the workshop will be delivered online.

There is no charge to register or attend.

Memo to Readers: Power of Personal Papers October 22 – 24

A 90-minute online workshop at the York Writers Conference.

Workshop: A letter home from the front lines, a cryptic postcard, a grocery list, a crumpled mess of personal ads, a wedding RSVP with a NO written in red and underlined…there are stories behind, between and beyond the words on paper.

The epistolary form is responsible for some of the best classic and contemporary fiction, poetry and non-fiction around – either as inspiration or through writing in that form. Join Ruth E. Walker in a dip into the ink of creating new work from personal papers.
