Your Leaders

Each Writescape retreat and workshop is lead by both Ruth E. Walker and Gwynn Scheltema.

Gwynn Scheltema is an award-winning freelance writer and poet, and a founding editor for the Canadian journal LICHEN Arts & Letters Preview.

Ruth E. Walker is an award-winning writer, poet & playwright with fiction, poetry, and non-fiction work published in Canada, the US, and the UK.

These two powerhouse presenters have appeared on television and radio,
and won writing awards, such as:

Larry Turner Non-fiction Award
Toronto Star short story competition
Canadian Living’s short story award
Canadian Authors Short story contest
Writers’ Circle of Durham Region short story competition

Your weekend leaders are sought after as judges for fiction and poetry competitions. They are dynamic workshop facilitators who have taught a full range of programs from half-day workshops to weeklong retreats to college level credit courses.

Promotion

Gwynn and Ruth wouldn’t be able to do what they do if it weren’t for the able assistance of Heather M. O’Connor. Heather’s skills as a promotor and all-around good organizer and “den mother” help keep Ruth and Gwynn focussed and productive.
