Hi Gwynn,
Just a very brief note…. As a member of Writers Community of York Region I also subscribe to the sister Simcoe County website where I read about your presentation. I then googled you and on your Linkedin profile, where it seems we have some third generation connections, I noticed your background included education at Bulawayo.
I have just launched a book of 80 works of lyrical verse, but in a few weeks another book in my “Wanderings and Sojourns” series comes out comprising 25 short stories as well as 25 poems. The stories are all true and drawn from my own wayward experiences around the planet. Some of the stories in that book are from the Chimurenga. I was travelling through Rhodesia for many weeks before and during the time of Arch Bishop Muzorewa’s elections, working on farms, travelling with a veterinary surgeon, etc. and have to say that period (a wonderful blend of utter beauty and abject fear) was one of the most significant self-transformational experiences of my then much younger life.
To find out more of my written work I have a website http://www.caridiangroup.com, But far more to the point, if you have any writings about Rhodesia, and Zimbabwe/Rhodesia, I would very much appreciate you pointing me it its direction.
Hoping our literary or conversational paths may cross somewhen.
Hamba Gashle (assuming you know a little Sindabele…. This is about all I can remember….)
Jim.
Hi Jim,
Wow! What a small world.
My published work is all in anthologies and literary journals. The story I read at the luncheon was published in the Antogonish Review. It’s called “Remember Three.”
I am working on a novel set in Matebeleland which I hope to finish in the not too distant furture.
I’ll checkout your website etc. Good luck with your writing.
Gwynn
